Holmes grump high five! I read the stories as a teenager and the the "genius asshole" stuff has been irritating me since it started with stuff like House, let alone when they began making actual Holmes adaptations with the same characterisation. That said, I do like Elementary a lot, at least so far (we're only on second season) - I feel like that Holmes is a plausible extrapolation, and one who clearly has a heart and does care about the people he helps.
